COMMON FAQ’s

Q:  What are your Brackets made out of?
A:  The VML and VLX Brackets are made from 16 gauge cold rolled steel, and powder coated with an industry standard C241 black textured finish for years of use.

Q:  Why are your Brackets better than any other mounting solution for the Vagabond battery packs?
A:  Simply put, there just isn’t a more secure and reliable mounting solution available for the Vagabond series battery packs by Paul C. Buff than the VML and VLX Brackets.  Period.  Yes, there are a multitude of make-shift options that one could fashion themselves.  But most of them have some serious design flaws that do little to protect and prevent damage to the Vagabond battery pack over time.  The VML and VLX Brackets will ensure that your Vagabond battery pack stays where you want it to, keeping it safe and out of your way so you can focus on what’s most important…your shoot!

Q:  Do you offer a warranty on your Brackets?
A:  I strongly believe that making sure my customers are happy is the only way to do (and ultimately grow) my business.  While my Brackets aren’t products that would typically comes with a “warranty” per se, if you ever have a problem with your VML or VLX Bracket contact me right away and I’ll do my best to solve the issue.

Q:  Do you have a return policy?
A:  I do not offer returns for my products, or for pre-orders.  Simply put, I expect my customers to understand what they are buying before they place their order, and consequently I can’t be held responsible if a customer decides that the battery pack itself isn’t right for them and chooses to send it back to the manufacturer (Paul C. Buff).  As a small business, it’s difficult for me to manage inventory and handle the processing of existing orders as well as pre-orders when I have to deal with returns.  Therefore, I don’t offer returns or refunds.

Q  Are you affiliated with Paul C. Buff?
A:  No, I am not in any way affiliated with Paul C. Buff or Alien Bees.

Q:  What shipping service do you use?
A:  I ship all orders using the United States Postal Service (USPS) Priority Mail service.

Q:  Who came up with the idea for the VML and VLX Brackets?
A:  The VML and VLX Brackets were designed and developed by myself, Joe Jack, a professional photographer based out of Longmont, CO.  For more information about me and how the VML and VLX Brackets came to be, please feel free to read the About page.

Q:  Is it true that the VML and VLX Brackets are really Made in the USA?
A:  Yes.  As a proud American and US military veteran, I strongly believe in keeping jobs here in America.  Every piece of the VML and VLX Brackets, including the accessories, are made right here in the USA.

Q:  Do you ship internationally?
A:  Yes we do.  As indicated on the Place Your Order page, if you live outside the United States or Canada please contact me before placing your order so that I can provide you with an accurate shipping cost.  Once you confirm your order, I will send you an online invoice which you can pay through the website.

Q:  Do I have to use a Super Clamp to mount your Brackets to my light stand?
A:  While some of our customers have tried to mount the VML and VLX Brackets to a light stand using the supplied velcro cinch straps alone, the VML and VLX Brackets were designed to be used in conjunction with a Manfrotto Super Clamp.  Therefore, for the ultimate in stability, security, and peace of mind we highly recommend using the VML and VLX Brackets in conjunction with a Manfrotto Super Clamp instead of using the velcro cinch straps (or other make shift method) alone.

Q:  Why did you design your Brackets to use a Manfrotto Super Clamp instead of a cheaper clamp?
A:  The Manfrotto Super Clamp has a proven track record of being the most secure and rock solid clamp in the photography industry.  Because of it’s reputation, it was the clear choice when designing the VML and VLX Brackets around a clamp style mounting solution.

Q:  Does a Manfrotto Super Clamp come with the VML or VLX Brackets?
A:   No, a Manfrotto Super Clamp is not included with the purchase of the VML or VLX Bracket.  However, if you are interested in purchasing a Manfrotto Super Clamp for your Vagabond Bracket they are available on the Place Your Order page.

Q:  Why do your Brackets cost so much?
A:  This is probably one of the most common questions that I get about the VML and VLX Brackets.  In fact, it has been asked so frequently that I dedicated a blog post to this question specifically (click here to read the post).  The short answer to this question is that it’s not cheap to produce such a high quality product like the VML and VLX Brackets in the US.  For a more detailed explanation, please refer to my blog post entitled “The Cost of Quality”.

VML BRACKET FAQ’s

Q:  Does the VML Bracket fit the new Vagabond Lithium Extreme battery pack?

A:  No.  The VML Bracket is designed specifically for the Paul C. Buff Vagabond Mini Lithium, not the newer Vagabond Lithium Extreme which is larger and heavier than the Vagabond Mini Lithium.

Q:  Are there any issues with the Vagabond Mini Lithium overheating while used with the VML Bracket?
A:  No.  Because of the unique design of the VML Bracket, air circulation around the Vagabond Mini Lithium is uninhibited.  If you’ll notice in the pictures in the VML Gallery, there is an area between the back of the battery pack and where the screws are inserted to attach a super clamp to the VML Bracket.  That area, combined with unobstructed cutouts for the vents on the Vagabond Mini Lithium, allow for perfect air flow around the battery pack thereby eliminating the chance of overheating.

Q:  I lost my instruction manual.  Where can I get the instructions to assemble the VML Bracket?
A:  Here’s a quick video that will explain the assembly of the VML Bracket:

VLX BRACKET FAQ’s

Q: Will the VLX Bracket work with the Paul C. Buff Vagabond Mini Lithium battery pack?
A:  No.  The VLX Bracket is designed to work exclusively with the Paul C. Buff Vagabond Lithium Extreme battery pack.

Q:  Are there any issues with the Vagabond Lithium Extreme overheating while used with the VLX Bracket?
A:  No.  Like the VML Bracket, the VLX Bracket is designed to allow air circulation around the Vagabond Lithium Extreme to prevent overheating.  Just like the VML Bracket, there are cutouts in the VLX Bracket that are positioned directly over the vents on the Vagabond Lithium Extreme which allows heat to dissipate from the Vagabond Lithium Extreme.  In addition, there is enough space between the super clamp slot in the VLX Bracket and the Vagabond Lithium Extreme to allow the internal fan of the battery pack to vent properly and thereby eliminating the chance of overheating.

Q:  Do I have to remove the mounting clamp that comes on the Vagabond Lithium Extreme to use the VLX Bracket?
A:  Yes.  The mounting clamp that comes with the Vagabond Lithium Extreme is not needed when using the VLX Bracket.  The original mounting clamp on the Vagabond Lithium Extreme is secured to the case of the battery by four small screws.  Simply unscrew the four screws and remove the mounting clamp in order to attach the battery pack to the VLX Bracket.
