A Bracket For The New Vagabond Lithium Extreme? | The VML Bracket

Since the announcement by Paul C. Buff about their new Vagabond Lithium Extreme battery pack, I have received numerous emails asking whether or not I will be designing and bringing to market a mounting system for the new VLE (Vagabond Lithium Extreme).  While the mounting system that comes with the VLE is a step up from their previous plastic clamp on the VML (Vagabond Mini Lithium), it is still mediocre at best and certainly won’t last long with the kind of demand most photographers expect from their gear.

The short answer to the question of whether or not I’ll be bringing a VLE Bracket to market is…maybe.  When I designed the VML Bracket, the VML had already been in the marketplace for quite some time and had proven itself as an industry standard.  Incurring the design and production costs to bring the VML Bracket to market was a no brainer given the popularity of the VML.  With the introduction of the VLE being just last month, it’s too hard to tell whether or not it’s a product that can find a confident place in the photography industry like the VML did.  With mixed reviews, a horrid color scheme, and many photographers still reluctant to ditch their trusty VML’s in favor of the new VLE, it’s still up in the air as to whether or not a new mounting system will be something I move forward with.

In saying that, it goes without saying that the new VLE is packed with some interesting and well thought out improvements over the VML.  Will they be enough to sway potential customers away from the VML is another story.
